New York City, Home Port for Largest NCL Ship
Published Thursday, October 6th 2011 - Updated Friday, October 7th 2011The largest NCL cruise ship ever, the “Norwegian Breakaway” will be making New York City her home port. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan are proud to announce that she will be making a series of 22 seven-day cruises from New York to Bermuda beginning May 12, 2013 through Oct 6, 2013. Latitudes members can start making reservations on Friday, October 14, 2011 and to the public on Monday, October 17, 2011.
Peter Max, America's most popular living artist and pop icon has been commissioned to paint the signature hull artwork for Norwegian Breakaway. This is the first time a well-known artist has been asked to paint the hull artwork on one of NCL’s ships.
Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway were recently announced as the names of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ships. Norwegian says “the names best invoke the feeling that these ships will provide a ‘break’ at sea from the stress of everyday life.’Breakaway,’ it notes, is defined as ‘a departure or break from routine or tradition and ‘getaway’ is "a place where one escapes for relaxation, vacation, etc.’ "
